Grizzlies hand Tomahawks a tough loss in their tourney hunt

The Tomahawks dropped to 4-10-1 as they battle for one of the final spots in the Divsion II tourney picture, while the Grizzlies are one of the divsion’s best at 14-2 with their fifth straight win.

Zach Stimeling had a goal and two assists for the ‘Hawks, who got single goals from Hunter Burke, Dom Carozza and Stephen Licata. Regan Sedlar added two assists for the Tomahawks, who were tied 2-2 after one but trailed 3-2 going into the third and never again got even.

Merrimack hosts Oyster River on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Manchester’s West Side Arena.

The Warriors fell to 1-15, as a one goal game entering the third period turned into tough defeat. Aidan Chretien and William Mancini were among the goal scorers for the Warriors.

WRESTLING

Campbell fourth (Saturday)

Six Campbell High wrestlers were seeded headed into the Division III State Championships, and six Cougars placed, helping their team to a fourth-place finish overall.

Tyler O’Mara scored the championship at 138 pounds, the only champ on the day for Campbell. Trevor O’Mara was second at the 145-pound weight class.

Taking thirds were Jacob Oberto at 106, Brendan Douglas at 132 and Tyler Ladd at 160. Devin Dube was fourth at 195.

BOWLING

Merrimack falls in state semis

(Saturday)

The Tomahawks, fell to eventual state champion Goffstown, 4-0, in their best-of-seven semifinal match on Saturday by scores of 190-158, 190-178, 190-142, 223-172. The Grizzlies went on to defeat Spaulding 4-3 for the state crown.

Fifth-seeded Merrimack downed No. 4 Stevens in the quarters in four games by a count of 165-144, 196-180, 201-123 and 210-204 to reach the semifinal round. Merrimack was led on the day by, among others, Mike Grover.

Bishop Guertin was also a victim of the Grizzlies, falling the quarters 4-0 by counts of 197-163, 223-201,180-110 and 223-136. Guertin, the eighth seed, reached the quarters with a prelim win over nine-ranked Hollis Brookline, also with a 4-0 sweep: 189-152, 182-162, 152-144, 197-131.

Guertin was paced on the day by Mike Pavelitch. Pavelitch will go in as the fifth seed in next Saturday’s State Individual Tournament at Strikers East in Raymond, while Merrimack’s Grover will be ranked eighth.
