NASHUA – Sean Holland breathed a sigh of relief on Friday. He now has a home for next season.

Holland called Fordham University football coach Joe Conlin, a former University of New Hampshire assistant, and verbally committed to attend the school and play football next season.

“I visited earlier this week, had a great visit with the coaches, and obviously academically it’s a great school,” Holland said. “So obviously it’s a great opportunity for me. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Holland said he’ll receive some academic aid money but will have a chance to earn more once he’s there. Fordham competes in the Patriot League.

Holland, the 2017 Telegraph Player of the Year, threw for over 2,500 yards this past season, with 24 TDs. He also rushed for 968 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Conlin, who was at UNH from 2004-2010, got the Fordham head job two months ago, after two years as Yale’s offensive coordinator/associate head coach. Ironically Yale was one of the schools Holland was waiting on,according to his father Jerry, and he was also sought by a few other schools, such as Bentley, as well.

“I think it’s a great fit,” South offensive coordinator Bill Monsen said. “The offense matches his skill set, and it’s really similar to what we’ve run here with him.”

Holland said he’ll look forward to going to school in New York City.

“It’s a cool environment,” he said. “There’s a lot of hard-working people there (on campus) and Coach Conlin is doing a great thing down there at Fordham so I want to be a part of it.”

And he’s glad the decision has now been made.

“It was interesting, fun and new, the recruiting process,” Holland said. “I’m happy to have a home now and look forward to next season.”
