North-Souhegan tops Alvirne for first win, 5-2

Five different players scored to give the Saber-Titans their first win of the regular season (1-13) on Sunday at Skate 3.

Griff Masseur and John Natale each had a goal and two assists, while the other goals were by Brandon Hughs, Chris Constant and Dean Paquette, who also had an assist. Other assists went to Matty Eskensas and Mike Dodge. N-S broke the game open with three second period scores, and got 16 saves from goalie Rob Morel.

For the 3-12 Broncos, Damien Barahona scored twice, both times assisted by Jake Natola. Shane Pimentel had 23 saves in net for Alvirne.

Merrimack 6,

Portsmouth-Newmarket 3

The Tomahawks improved to 4-8-1, paced by Matt Warrington’s two goals and an assist, two goals by Andrew Frothingham, plus a goal and assist by Zach Stimeling. Hunter Burke added the other Tomahawk goal while other assists went to Joe Pillsbury, Dominic Carozza, and Greg Bourque. ‘Hawks goalie Greg Amato had 17 saves.

The Warriors suffered their 12th straight loss, falling to 1-12 on the year. HBD visits Monadnock at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday at the Keene Ice Arena.

Shannon Paquette and Ryleigh Tobin each had three goals and an assist as the Sabers improved to 8-6. Clare Woodford and Maggie Dix each had a goal and an assist while Makayla LaChance had seven saves in the Souhegan net.

Exeter 13,

Bishop Guertin 0

The unbeaten (12-0-1) Blue Hawks handed the host Cards (8-5) their worst loss of the season. Guertin looks to bounce back Tuesday at Skate 3 vs. Kingswood.

SWIMMING

Saber girls impressive in Division II meet

Hanover swept the boys and girls state title meets with 201 and 207 points, respectively but locally the Souhegan girls finished with an impressive 117 points.

The Sabers were led by Bella Geskos’ first place in the 100 breastroke in 1:08.53 and third place finish in the 200 IM in 2:13.42. Fellow Saber Tess White was second in the 100 free (54.45) and third in the 200 free in 1:57.31.

The Sabers also won the 200 medley relay, and captured second in the 400 free relay.

Souhegan’s Vivien Merryfield was seventh in the 50 free at 26.07, while Hollis Brookline’s Mary Martin was 10th. Also for Souhegan, Nicole Gagnon was ninth in the 100 back (1:06.59).

The Cavs were led by Maya Ruvido, third in the 100 back in 100.78 and fifth in the 100 free in 55.89.

Campbell’s Kaetlyn Rakiey was fifth in the 200 free in 2:02.68 and sixth in the 500 free in 5:30.81.

Milford’s Alice Danas was fourth in the 100 breast (1:14.21), and seventh in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.55. Fellow Spartan Elaine Danas was eighth in the 200 free in 2:10.06.

Boys highlights were Campbell’s William Bauer finishing fifth in the 100 back in 59.63 seconds while Hollis Brookline’s Jamison Muckstadt was 10th in the 100 free in 56.65
