This map shows the results of E. coli bacteria counts at test sites on the Souhegan, Merrimack and Nashua rivers during during the most recent sampling run by volunteers. Samples on the Souhegan and Merrimack are taken every two weeks from June through September by the Souhegan Watershed Association and the Lower Merrimack River Local Advisory Committee. Samples on the Nashua and associated rivers are taken once a month through October by the Nashua River Watershed Association.
Green bubbles mark excellent results, with little bacteria. Yellow bubbles mark adequate to poor results, where swimming is discouraged. Red bubbles mark very high bacteria levels, where contact with the water should be avoided. A purple "stick pin" means no results were obtained in the most recent session.
