Kudos to aldermen for grilling Wheeler

Letter to the Editor

We can be proud of our Board of Aldermen in questioning Executive Councilor David Wheeler recently about his ill-advised vote to kill rail transportation.

Wheeler chose to mislead the board with his off-the-mark rationale for an indefensible vote. How ironic it is that our own councilor dealt the death-blow to future study of rail service to Nashua and beyond. Even two councilors from northern districts supported the study Wheeler killed, to Nashua’s long- term detriment.

It was disingenuous for Wheeler to argue that the $400,000 was not available. He knows full well the money had already been appropriated by the Legislature and included in the budget. All he had to do was to cast the deciding vote to approve the contract to carry out the legislative policy.

Wheeler failed the Nashua region for purely ideological reasons. What a lost opportunity, one we might not see again for a very long time.
