Lawmakers adopt tax impact measure
The New Hampshire Legislature has enacted a change to our current statutes that will allow a town to vote to have the Board of Selectmen place the tax impact of money articles at the end of any article.
The new statute (RSA 32:5 V-b) reads: “Any town may vote to require that the annual budget and all special warrant articles having a tax impact, as determined by the governing body, shall contain a notation stating the estimated tax impact of the article. The determination of the estimated tax impact shall be subject to approval by the governing body.”
After a town votes to adopt this provision, a budget committee and board of selectmen will need to list the tax impact of money articles in all warrants for town meeting.
