Students, welcome back to school

My name is Jahmal Mosley, and I am your superintendent of schools for the Nashua School District.

Today will be the first day of school in Nashua. I am looking forward to getting to know your children over the course of the school year, but first let me take this opportunity to tell you about myself.

I began my work experience in the field of education as a special education teacher in the cities of Cambridge and Worcester, Mass. I worked as a school administrator in various roles for many years in urban, suburban and rural communities in New England.

I am delighted to find myself now in Nashua, which brings together many of the fine qualities of a city with quick access to established, close-knit neighborhoods and proximity to areas of picturesque hills and farms.

We have been gearing up to welcome Nashua students back to school. Principals are busy putting the final touches on opening-day schedules and helping to fulfill classroom needs. Teachers have been busy setting up their classrooms and preparing for your kids to begin the school year on a most encouraging note.

I have quickly come to learn that the Nashua School District offers rich, diverse and well-developed curriculum designed for the “whole child.” Nashua fosters and champions innovation and prepares our students to think globally and support local endeavors. Our schools embrace and celebrate cultural diversity, and welcome you to become involved.

As your superintendent, I want Nashua families to understand that we champion partnerships and connections both in and outside the classroom. Just a few days ago, we greeted more than 1,500 of our students at Nashua Goes Back to School at the Nashua Public Library. What a great way for our supportive community to kick off the new school year.

We have activities, clubs and extracurricular teams for students, so please take advantage of our offerings and have your child get involved and connected to the school. In addition, we encourage you to visit our website to keep connected to events and activities throughout the year.

Thank you for letting me take this opportunity to reach out to you. I welcome your encouragement and support, and I look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the future.
