Water Warriors

By Wendy E.N. Thomas - New Hampshire State Rep. District 21 Candidate | Oct 7, 2018

New Hampshire has many concerns right now. We have an opioid epidemic, healthcare is an issue, our youth is leaving the state, and our educational system is being challenged.

In addition, the water we drink and the air we breathe is being contaminated by corporations that think nothing of dumping or burning their toxic garbage into where we live.

Our town has been contaminated with chemicals that are linked to serious health concerns, including cancer and chronic illness. In fact, our beautiful state has one of the highest rates of cancer in the nation.

Cancer.

It didn’t come from our sparkling lakes or our majestic mountains. It came from corporations that could have cared less.

Everything starts with air, food, and water. We could solve the opioid crisis tomorrow, but if we are still giving people contaminated food and water and allow them to breathe contaminated air, then we are not helping them to heal.

Even if we could update every school in the state, if we still provide our students with contaminated water – we’re not helping them reach their full potential.

And if you go out for a short run and breath contaminated air, you’re not doing your body any good.

By now there is more than enough evidence to show that PFOAs/PFAS do not belong in our water. The current level of PFOAs allowed is 70 ppt. Vermont, Minnesota, New York and New Jersey have all independently and, based on scientific research, decided that level is too high and have set lower limits to protect their residents.

Think about that, New Jersey has cleaner water than New Hampshire.

We need people who are willing to go to Concord, stand up and say “Enough is Enough!” Our residents deserve better. We deserve to be able to drink water that will not harm us. We deserve to eat food and breathe air that will not make us sick.

And we deserve to hold those accountable for the damage they have done to our town.

Please vote for me, Wendy Thomas, Nancy Murphy and Kathy Stack – the Water Warriors of Merrimack. All of us have been on the Citizen’s for Clean Water group and we promise to stand tall and confront the State and any corporation that thinks they can get away with destroying our environment and making us sick.
