‘True allegiance’ revisited

By Earl Mosier - Nashua | Sep 23, 2018

Regarding Ron Cicotte’s letter to the editor published Sept. 16, titled “True allegiance:”

I agree with much of what you said our about federal employees. Most try to do a good job, try to keep politics out of their decision making and take their oath to the Constitution seriously. But I think you greatly misrepresent the concerns many Americans have about the “Deep State.”

The last three summarizing paragraphs of your letter are basically progressive talking points that do not reflect the issue at all.

What is concerning is the subset of federal employees, especially senior-level employees, who use their positions of power to push a particular political agenda and subvert the democratic process. They belong to both political parties, and they ignore their oath to uphold the Constitution.

Mr. Trump is rightly concerned about the top officials at the FBI and Justice Department who colluded to influence our election and are still attempting to subvert the rule of law and undermine a legitimately elected president. Every American, regardless of political party, should be greatly upset with the actions of the “Deep State.”

Specifically:

Many senior FBI and DOJ officials believed Hillary Clinton would be the next president. Despite overwhelming and compelling evidence of her criminality, there was a conspiracy to clear her. But that wasn’t enough. Using the discredited Steele dossier as a pretext, the FBI launched the campaign to destroy Donald Trump. Even though they knew the dossier was discredited, it was used as evidence to obtain FISA warrants to monitor the Trump campaign and American citizens illegally. It is likely the FISA judge was lied to.

The FBI violated its own rules and regulations in launching the probe into the Trump campaign. There was no probable cause, no credible evidence of crimes, and no plausible intelligence to justify a counterintelligence investigation. Which is why after nearly two years of investigation, there is not one shred of evidence of “Russian collusion.”

All the people who signed the FISA warrants could potentially be charged with abuse of power, perjury, false and misleading statements, obstruction of justice, fraud and conspiracy to defraud the U.S.

In addition, these same officials have stonewalled members of Congress from seeing documentation they have lawfully subpoenaed and have the constitutional right to see. This is undermining the oversight authority of Congress.

And this is just the beginning. The deeper one digs, the more foul the stench of the “Deep State” becomes. The Strzok/Page text message revelations, leaking info to the press and then using the published stories as pretext for investigations, and on and on.

Please refer to Gregg Jarrett’s book, “The Russia Hoax” for thorough and detailed documentation.

So even if you believe Hillary Clinton is a saint and the senior FBI and DOJ officials are angels of light, there is more than enough evidence to warrant an investigation into their activities. We should hold our government officials to the highest standards where even the appearance of impropriety deserves investigation.

That is not “vilifying.” It is called “due diligence.”
