League has made impact

On behalf of the Nashua Public Library, I want to thank the League of Women Voters – Greater Nashua for presenting five candidate forums at the library this fall.

Hundreds of citizens attended the forums. The recordings by e-TV and Access Nashua received more than 800 views on YouTube. What these voters didn’t see was the behind-the-scenes work of the League in producing the five events.

League volunteers attended training run by the state League of Women Voters. They collected personal statements from dozens of candidates and published them in forum programs. They hashed out the complicated logistics of running the forums in as fair a manner as possible. They published voter guides explaining the roles of local officeholders. And they gave Nashua high school students an opportunity to apprentice in the workings of democracy.

The Greater Nashua chapter of the League of Women Voters has only become active in the past couple of years, but it has made an outsized contribution to the city’s electoral process.
