Every day is Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, our nation collectively pauses to honor veterans – at Manchester, Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, we will not only pause to honor veterans, we will take action to honor these men and women who made possible our way of life, our freedoms and the rights, privileges and responsibilities we enjoy as Americans.

The president declared November Veterans Month – not just Veterans Day or Week – to honor America’s heroes and remember the sacrifices they and their families have made.

This is certainly a special month for those of us in the Department of Veterans Affairs – but for us, every day is Veterans Day. We demonstrate our commitment daily by offering unparalleled service to our Nation’s heroes in hopes they will choose VA.

In New Hampshire, the innovations in advancing veteran care has been unprecedented. In the past 90 days, the medical center:

• Created an Office of Community Care;

• Redesigned Pain and Women Veteran Clinical program space following a catastrophic flood; and

• Created a first-of-its-kind in the nation public/private partnership with Catholic Medical Center to serve veterans, made possible by Gov. Chris Sununu’s swift action to put in place an executive order allowing VA providers to practice in the community.

We’ve made great progress, but we have much more to do. As we make our way forward, at Manchester VA Medical Center, I am proud to stand alongside our staff who serve veterans with compassion and respect, together we are putting veterans first. It’s our job, yes. But it is much more than that – it is a privilege and an honor to serve veterans as well as they served us.

To all those who have faithfully served, and those serving today, we thank you.
