Letter was unfair to Ayotte on education

Contrary to a recent letter to the editor that unfairly attacked Sen. Kelly Ayotte on education issues, she has consistently fought to ensure that students in our state have access to the best education possible, In fact, she recently voted in support of Every Child Achieves Act and included several amendments to boost education initiatives in New Hampshire. This bipartisan bill will go a long way to improve the out dated No Child Left Behind law currently in place.

It will also make sure that decisions regarding our children’s education are made right here in Nashua, not in Washington. Our teachers and school officials interact with Nashua students every day, and they know what’s best for their education needs. The Every Child Achieves act gives decision-making in education to our school and local officials, which would be a welcome change and would result in a better future for our students.

We’re also pleased that Kelly included several amendments intended to address the specific needs of students in Nashua. As we are all painfully aware, our city is dealing with a terrible heroin and opioid abuse epidemic, and we’re glad that Kelly included an amendment in this education bill that would improve the support system at school for students dealing with substance abuse in their families at home.

We’re proud to have her represent our state.
