Three strikes rule
Can anyone doubt seriously that if California teacher Gregory Salcido had lashed out in class with a tirade directed at, say, illegal immigrants, he would have been disciplined harshly?
But neither that nor anything else politically correct was Salcido’s target. Instead, his venom was spewed at those in the military
Salcido, also a city council member in Pico Rivera, Calif., teaches at El Rancho High School. When a student wore a Marine Corps shirt to class, Salcido went ballistic.
Referring to members of the military, he said, “We’ve got a bunch of dumb s-s over there. Think about the people you know over there, your freaking stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They’re dumb s-s. They’re not like high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people, they’re the freaking lowest of the low.”
At last report, he felt no need to apologize.
Aurora R. Villon, president of the Pico Rivera Board of Education, said she was “dumbfounded” by Salcido’s comment.
It is not the first time he has been in hot water. He was placed on leave for a time in 2012, after slapping a student. Two years before that, he was suspended for a time after he threatened a student and made “inappropriate” comments about race.
School officials say they are investigating. Here in our area, we have a different idea about people like Salcido: Three strikes. …
