Learn from mistakes

Behavior by some Democrat leaders in the wake of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation as a Supreme Court justice reminds one of some sports fans who just can’t believe their team lost. You know the refrain: We was robbed!

But Democrats who engaged in character assassination against Kavanaugh got only what they tried to deny him: a fair shake. There was an utter and complete lack of evidence to back up accusations against him.

Now, some Democrats in Congress want an investigation of the investigation. That is, they are attempting to convince Americans that President Donald Trump stacked the cards against the FBI finding anything to substantiate claims against Kavanaugh.

Last week, FBI Director Christopher Wray was asked about that during a Senate hearing that was supposed to deal with threats to national security. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., could not resist the opportunity to put Wray on the spot over the FBI investigation of Kavanaugh during the week preceding his confirmation.

She focused on a report that the FBI probe of Kavanaugh – one of several, it should be noted – was “limited in scope.”

All law enforcement investigations are limited in scope, of course. Otherwise, those looking into allegations of misbehavior would never get to the point of their inquiries.

Wray’s response to Harris was illuminating. “I think I would say that our investigation here, our supplemental update to the previous background investigation, was limited in scope and that is consistent with the standard process or such investigations, going back quite a long way,” the FBI director testified.

Read it again: The probe of Kavanaugh was “consistent with the standard process … going back quite a long way.”

Good coaches understand that the way to handle losses is to ensure the team understands how it could have performed better, then move on.

Harris and other ultra-liberals in the Senate seem incapable of learning from their mistakes and preparing for the next big political contest. That does not serve their fellow Democrats – or the nation -well.
