George Arthur Cady Jr.
York, Maine – George Arthur Cady, Jr. of 117 Long Sands Rd., passed away peacefully on Easter morning April 8, 2012 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
He was born in Nashua, NH on February 3, 1924 as son of Nellie Bailey and George Arthur Cady, Sr. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Edward “Ted” and Gerald “Bud” Cady. He grew up in Nashua and graduated from Nashua High School – Class of 1943. As a young man, he worked on the Hall Family Farm in Nashua where he developed his unique construction skills and heavy equipment mechanic abilities. He served in the Seabees 8th Special Naval Construction Battalion during World War II on Attu in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He worked many years as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Hirsch Brothers of Pelham, NH and Robert Levesque Construction of Hudson, NH and Eliot, ME. He was a member of the Hudson, NH Fire Department, retiring as a Captain after 28 years of service. George and his wife Barbara together raised their three children in Hudson, before settling in York, Maine in 1983.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Burnham Cady; a son Steven and his wife Darthy; a daughter Patricia Clark and her husband Matthew; a son Timothy and his wife Ann; 5 grandchildren Christopher Clark and his wife Marie; Peter Clark; Eric, Paul and Emily Cady; 2 great-grandchildren Owen and Tyler Clark; and many nieces; nephews; and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First Parish Congregational Church, 180 York Street, York, ME followed by light refreshments in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be held at a later date.
