Alan Stanley Getz
Alan Stanley Getz, age 69, Hollis, NH, passed away on March 30, 2012 following a brave battle with cancer.
He was born on July 21, 1942 to Mollie (Levine) and Meyer Getz.
In 1960 he graduated from high school in Long Beach, NY. He attended Michigan State University first earning a B.A. then an MBA in Marketing. After college, Alan became product manager at H.J. Heinz in Pittsburgh, PA and Mexico City, Mexico. He then started work at S.C. Johnson & Sons in new product development. In 1989 he purchased Johnson Creative Arts (formerly Elsa Williams Needlework) and Reynolds yarns, creating JCA, Inc. With Alan’s leadership, knowledge and creativity, JCA soon became one of the most successful businesses in the needlecraft industry. He was also on the board of The National Needlework Association.
Alan was an avid Michigan State Spartan and followed both the football and basketball teams around the country. He had a witty sense of humor, was a prankster, an exceptional storyteller and enjoyed entertaining and being entertained by his granddaughter. He traveled for business and pleasure often making lifelong friends along the way. His Irish Setter, Hallie, always brought a smile to his face.
Alan is survived by his wife Bonnie (Stolt) of Hollis, brother Stuart (Sue) Getz of Long Beach, NY and Coral Gables, FL, his daughter Laura of Nashville, TN, daughter Carrie (Sean Simmons) and granddaughter Mollie of Seattle,WA.
