Irving H. ‘Sonny’ Sawyer

Irving H. “Sonny” Sawyer, 76, of Merrimack, NH, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2010 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Camden, Maine on June 13, 1933, Sonny was the son of the late Louis and Adelaide (Raynes) Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer had made his home in Hudson for many years before moving to Merrimack. He owned and operated his own auto body business in Maine and New Hampshire for many years and later worked at MacMulkin Chevrolet and the former Gateway Volkswagen both of Nashua.

His greatest pleasures in life were enjoying time with his family. Sonny also had a passion for restoring antique vehicles, for which he received many awards and trophies. Mr. Sawyer was a longtime member of the Roadrunners Car Club.

Members of his family include his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bruce and Paula Sawyer of Hudson, Brian and Belinda Sawyer of Merrimack and Blaine Sawyer of Nashua; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Stan Gilbert of Litchfield, Brenda and Lee Carboni of Maryland and Beverly and Vernon Francis of Hudson; his former wife, Leona Sawyer of Nashua; his grandchildren, Angela MacDonald and Timmy Sawyer, Kenny and Greg Gilbert, Danielle and Christopher Carboni, Sarah, Kimberly and Tommy Francis, Brianna, Blake, Brandon and Keri Sawyer; his two new great-grandchildren, Kendra and Audrey; two sisters, Olive Dufresne of Hope, Maine and Doralice Butterfield of Jay, Maine.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday evening, January 11th from 6 to 8 p.m.

His funeral service will be held in the First Baptist Church, 236 Central Street, Hudson, Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. The Rev. James R. Harrington, Pastor will officiate. Friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Irving’s memory to the St. Joseph Community Services Meals on Wheels Program, 395 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH 03054. Arrangements are in the care of the FARWELL FUNERAL SERVICE. (www.farwellfuneral.com)
