Frank Lagana, the beloved patriarch of four generations of the Lagana family, passed away on January 5, 2019, after a short period of declining health. Frank was born on July 22, 1930, to Angelo and Giuseppa Lagana, and had four brothers, Santo, Giuseppe, Sebastiano, and Salvatore. Frank was predeceased by the love of his life, Betty, in 2015, after 63 years of marriage.
From 1973 to 1998, Frank was the proprietor of several businesses in Merrimack, NH: The Meat Shoppe, Lagana’s Supermarket, and Frank’s Place. Frank was tireless; he worked seven days per week and became a popular member of Merrimack’s business and social communities while always making time for his family. Upon “retirement” in 1998, Frank worked part-time for Walmart, and later Market Basket, still butchering until he was 86! Even during his last days, he insisted upon reviewing Market Basket’s weekly flyer from his hospital bed to see what “we” had on sale!
Frank is survived by five children and their families: Jim and Debbie Lagana, Karen Lagana, Frank Lagana and Karen Hall, Janet Lagana and Heather Barlow, and Julie and Matthew Farnum, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Frank was a daily and important part of all their lives.
Frank lived a very full and happy life and was a constant source of optimism and humor for all who knew him. He’ll miss his “Breakfast Club”, his Patriots, the roll of the dice, but he’s back with Betty again.
We love you Dad, Papa, Papa2…Go in peace.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Merrimack, NH on Monday, January 14, at 10:30 AM. There will be no calling hours per Frank’s wish and he encourages all who knew him to embrace a loved one. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice. Please visit www.goodwinfh.com to sign the online guestbook.
