Jan L. Mellen

Jan L. Mellen, age 65, passed away on November 29, 2018 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH where she was surrounded by so many who loved her.

On July 27, 1953 a beautiful blue eyed blonde baby girl was born in Nashua, New Hampshire to Douglas Arthur Petry and Barbara Blood Petry. Little did anyone know the impact this bundle of energy would have on so many people. Growing up on a 100 acre chicken farm in Hollis NH is most likely where Jan developed a strong work ethic and learned a lot about perseverance. Amidst all the chores the family enjoyed summers at Rocky Pond, swimming, boating and having corn eating contests to see who could eat the most ears of corn. After graduating from Hollis Area High School in 1971 Jan attended Husson University in Bangor, ME for one year before returning home to enter the work force.

Jan was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness and in 1974 dedicated her life to studying the scriptures and actively sharing Bible teachings with others. She learned American Sign Language to be able to share Kingdom hope with the deaf community. She lived and died with the hope of the resurrection made possible by Jesus’ ransom. Mathew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” is the scripture Jan lived her life by
