Samella L. Shelby
Reflections of Life
Samella Little Shelby was born October 31, 1955 in Lakeview, Arkansas to the Late Ruthie Mae Milligan and the Late Johnnie Little. Some of her earlier years were spent in McGhee, Arkansas. Later she relocated to Helena, Arkansas where she attended school and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1974.
While attending Central High, Samella met her “High School Sweetheart”, Vernon Shelby. They began dating in 1971 and were united in Holy Matrimony in 1974. Two became one, and three beautiful children were born from their love.
The young family became a military family and was relocated from Arkansas to New Jersey in 1974. After completing their military service, they moved to New Hampshire where Samella eventually found employment as a Patient Service Rep at St. Joseph Hospital (formerly known as St. Joseph Internal Medicine). She loved her job and was well loved and respected by her supervisors, co-workers and patients. She remained a faithful employee there for over 20 years.
Samella was affectionally known as “Sam”, to her family and friends. She exemplified love, patience, peace, understanding and caring to others. She loved being in her vegetable and flower garden and she absolutely loved to cook. She was always looking for new recipes! Samella constantly watched the Food Network Channel and loved watching all their cooking shows. Sam also “Loved” watching “In the Kitchen with David” on QVC. David could sell Sam almost anything whether she needed it or not.
Sam was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She deeply loved and was committed to her family which also included her 3 furry children: Simon, Lucky and Maggie.
Because of Sam and Vernon’s shared commitment, their love was blessed with longevity. On February 24, 2018 they celebrated 44 wonderful years of marriage.
Sam accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age. On Saturday, August 25, 2018 she closed her eyes on this side of heaven and departed to receive her reward of eternal life from God. She is presently enjoying His presence with the hope of one day being reunited with her loved ones.
Sam will be deeply missed by all. She leaves to cherish loving memories: her loving husband, Vernon; daughter: Angela (Angie) Shelby; sons: Vernon Shelby, Jr. and Marcus Shelby; grandsons, Daequan Shelby and Malik Shelby; granddaughter, Dasia Shelby; sister, Georgia Carter (Rufus); brothers, Carl Little and Rufus Little; sisters-in-law, Linda K. Shelby, Kim Shelby Watson, Connie Shelby Barnes (Victor), nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
