Roland Alfred Goupil

Aug 3, 2018

Roland Alfred Goupil, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Manchester, NH on January 31, 1942 to the late Romeo and Yvonne (Boucher) Goupil.

Raised in Manchester, he attended the Parochial Schools on the West Side. He started his career turning wrenches at the Kelley Street Garage. He moved on to driving trucks for Great State Beverage and City Fuel. In 1971, he and his family moved to Merrimack, where he was employed as a maintenance person for many years at Our Lady of Mercy Church. In 1989, he moved to the White Mountains with his significant other, Judy, where he was employed by Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church as a maintenance person. He retired from Merrill Farms Resort, and in his retirement he worked at the North Conway Mountain Inn.

Roland’s many interests included working in his garage and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He enjoyed camping with his family, and that was how he discovered his love for the White Mountains. Some of his favorite past times were going to fairs (especially the Fryeburg fair) and visiting different train stations and museums. He enjoyed traveling, where he often found the best diners, where he could find his favorite “dish”, hamburgers and french fries. He loved to ride his motorcycle and snowmobile, but his greatest joy was driving around listening to 1950’s music in his award winning, red, 1951 Chevy Bel Air with a ghost flame paint job. To know “Goup” was to know that he loved to tease and joke and was a good sport in return. He will always be remembered as “such a good guy”. Most of all, he was a devoted companion, father (“Pop”), grandfather and friend who cherished time spent with those he loved.

He will be missed by his significant other of over 30 years, Judith Tilli; his daughter, Dianne Couturier and her husband Patrick; his son, David Goupil and his daughter Kasandra; his stepdaughter, Marianne Tilli-Pauling and her husband, Nigel and their children Katie Grace and Sammy; his “surrogate daughter”, Alicia Carter; his former wife and mother of his children, Pauline Vachon; many brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, longtime friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine Bruso and Doris Gagnon, and his niece and nephew, Susan and Michael Bruso and nephew Marc Beland.

Calling hours will be Sunday, August 5th from 4pm-8pm at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave, Manchester, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 6th at 9:30am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 6 Baboosic Lake Rd, Merrimack, NH. He will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made by floral gifts or donations to New England Donor Services, 60 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451 or Conway Area Humane Society, PO Box 260, Conway, NH 03818.
