Dorothy A. McCaffrey

Dorothy A. McCaffrey, 69, of Hudson passed away on Monday July 9th at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack following long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1949, daughter of the late Margaret and Owen McCaffrey. Dot graduated from Lowell State College, now known as the University of Lowell. Dot for many years was a manager at Nashua Federal Bank and then Bank of America.

In her free time, Dot enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to her favorite place Disney World. She most enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spoiling all of her nieces and nephews.

Upon Dot’s retirement, she began her volunteer work with several organizations. Dot was especially involved with Meals on Wheels. Dot not only delivered meals; she gave warm companionship to the recipients she visited and developed long-lasting friendships with some others.

After Dot’s cancer diagnosis in 2011, she took part in the Livestrong program at the YMCA. With the help of the trainers in the program, Dot regained her strength and was determined to fight the disease as best she could. After Dot began to feel better, she became a volunteer with the Livestrong Program as a mentor. She made many friends and helped many others along the way. Because of tireless dedication to the program as a mentor, Dot was selected as the 2015 Volunteer of the Year at the YMCA.
