Gilles P. Tardif

1934 - 2018

Gilles P. Tardif, 83, died peacefully after a short illness, on Tuesday, Feb. 20 with his wife Terry Saunders Tardif by his side at their winter home in Sarasota, FL. They spent summers at the family home in Freeport, ME.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1934 to Wilfred and Eva (Dumont) Tardif in Lewiston, ME. He attended St. Peter’s School and graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1954. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956 in Korea, once home on leave he married Monique G. Dion on February 12, 1955 who predeceased him in Oct. 2014. He was employed in the computer field and moved up & down the east coast where his 4 children were born. He later retired from Digital Equipment Corporation in 1991. He was an avid hockey player and coached in his early years, having played varsity hockey in high school. He was a member and volunteer of the Franco American Heritage Center in Lewiston. His hobbies were golf, skiing, travel, and spending time with his family and attending events that his grandchildren were involved in. He loved his Bruins and was a huge football fan. He was a glass half full kind of guy, who had a great sense of humor and loved people!

Along with his wife Terry, he is survived by his 4 children, Suzanne and her husband Kevin Mager of Derby, VT, Michael Tardif of Toronto, Canada, Michele and her husband John Fodero of Jericho, VT and Gerard Tardif of Hudson, MA. He is also survived and very proud of his 10 grandchildren: Patrick Mager & his wife Bridget, Matthew Mager & his wife Sara, Jason, Michael & Elise Tardif, Anna & John Fodero and Attalissa, Conor & Eliza Tardif. Terry’s 4 children and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral Services in memory of Gill will be held on Friday, March 9, at 10am at St. Jude Church, Main St. Freeport, ME, followed by a reception at the Harraseeket Inn, Freeport from 11:30AM until 1:30PM. Committal prayers with military honors will conclude services for Gill, 3PM, St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lewiston.
