Richard F. Lanagan
LEOMINSTER- Richard F. Lanagan, 91 passed away Friday October 27, in Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH.
He was born on July 23, 1926 in Spencer, the son of the late Robert and Mary (McNamara) Lanagan, and Step Father Raymond Cole. He was also predeceased by his brother Robert Lanagan and his sister Roberta Sweeney.
Mr. Lanagan at his retirement in 1991 held the position of Senior Vice President of The Bank of New England. He worked for Guaranty Bank and Trust Co. in Leominster. He liked to say he served in all the departments of the Bank and served as Branch Manager, Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Vice President, Vice President in 1969, and regional Manager in 1973 where he had the responsibility overseeing all the bank Branches in North Worcester County.
Mr. Lanagan had several community activities which included; serving as The Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Leominster Hospital, a member of The Leominster Industrial Finance Authority, a Director of The United Fund, Past Director and Treasurer of The Leominster Chapter of The American Red Cross, President and Director of The Leominster Chamber of Commerce, President of The Civilian Club of Leominster, Treasurer and Director of The Leominster Community Action Committee, Director of The Montachusett Opportunity Council, Chair of Heart Fund, Cancer Crusade Treasurer, Treasurer Leominster Twin Anniversary Association, Charter Member of the Kiwanis Club of South Worcester, Member of American Institute of Banking, and along with his wife, a founding member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster.
He served in The United States Navy during WWII where he received The WWII Victory Medal, America Area Ribbon, and The Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon.
Mr. Lanagan was a 1949 Graduate of Becker Junior College and was a graduate of David Prouty High in Spencer, MA. He also took post graduate studies at Williams College School of Banking, Clark University, and The American Institute of Banking in Worcester .
His greatest joys in life by far came as a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He is already missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his wife, Virginia (Hanrahan) Lanagan, and his daughters and their families Paula Byrant and her husband Jeff of Amherst NH, and his grandchildren Kaitlin, Korey, and Karissa, his daughter Patrice Crotty and her husband John of Leominster, and his grandchildren Patrick and Erin, and great grandchildren Joshua and Callie, his daughter Joan Feehan and her husband Brian of Lunenburg, and his grandchildren Noelle and Megan, and his daughter Catherine Serafini and her husband Richard of Sterling, and his grandchildren Alexandria, Jacob, and Zachary.
Mr. Lanagan’s Funeral will be held on Thursday (Nov.2) from THE CURLEY MARCHAND FUNERAL HOME, 89 West St. Leominster with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St. Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Leicester, MA. Calling Hours at the Funeral Home will be on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
