Thomas J. Kostoulakos

Jul 3, 2016

NASHUA, NH – Thomas J. Kostoulakos, age 88, a Nashua resident, passed away July 1st, 2016 at his home after a period of declining health surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley (Sims) Kostoulakos. Thomas was born in Dracut, MA on August 12, 1927, the son of Demetrious and Marigo Kostoulakos, the eighth born of eleven siblings. He was educated in the Dracut School System where he lived for most of his life except for 12 years where he lived in The Villages in Florida.

Thomas enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard in 1948 and subsequently became a full time Guardsman. Eventually he was promoted to Warrant Officer CW4. He had an administrative duty. In the position he and his staff processed hundreds of young men from the greater Lowell area into and out of the National Guard. After 38 years he retired. Thomas loved all the Boston sports teams. He played baseball in high school and when he retired he switched to softball. He was still playing softball into his 80th year. He also loved and played golf.

It should be noted that Thomas and all his male siblings served in the military in WWII and during peacetime. When he was promoted to Warrant Officer W4 he had to be addressed as Mr. Kostoulakos. Within a few days. One of his superior officers christened Thomas with a new name. (Mr. K) for obvious reasons. From that day on Mr. K became very popular throughout the 26th Yankee Division.

Thomas has been a member of the American Legion for 23 plus consecutive years. Currently with post 247, Tyngsboro, MA.

Thomas is survived by one brother Arthur who lives in Dracut, MA. He is also survived by two daughters, Gail Kearney who lives in Tyngsboro, MA with her husband Joseph Kearney, and Cindy (Smith) Flanders who lives in Lowell, MA. The Kostoulakos name has been well known in the Greater Lowell community for many years.

Thomas is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Also grandchildren Thomas Smith, Julie Smith Moulton, Joseph Kearney Jr, Christopher Kearney, Jessica Kearney. Great grandchildren Brendan Smith, Shelby Moulton, and Sydney Moulton. Great Great grandchild Carly Moulton.
