Adelaide D. ‘Ida’ Fernandes

Adelaide D. "Ida" Fernandes, 100, widow of John C. Fernandes, of Nashua, passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday morning, June 23, 2016.

A resident of Nashua for over 70 years, Ida was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on December 4, 1915, a daughter of the late Charles and Antonia DeJesus. She attended Lowell area schools. Ida began working at the Nashua Mills and went on to work at the J.F. McElwain Company for many years. She also worked in the dietary department at Greenbriar Healthcare of Nashua. After she retired, Ida was an active volunteer with the Grey Nuns and at the Senior Center of Nashua, Lowell and Chelmsford. Ida was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed singing for the "Silver Linings" and also enjoyed crocheting.

In addition to her parents, Ida was predeceased by her husband John; her daughter Evangeline "Angie" Gallant, and eight of her siblings, Tony, John, Frank, Manny, Joe, Adam, Mary and Angie.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert Fernandes, John Fernandes, and David Fernandes and his wife Maryellen; twelve grandchildren; Lisa Hafley, Thomas Gallant, Michael Gallant, James Gallant, Raymond Gallant, Ann Jenkins, Patty Procek, David Fernandes, Frances Arteaga, Renee Soto, Dorothy Fernandes, and John Fernandes; eighteen greatgrandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Alda Moriarty; many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Wednesday, June 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Thursday morning at 10 o’clock followed by interment at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request memorial donations be made to Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
