Dorothy (Meyer) Marcek

Dorothy (Meyer) Marcek, 83, of Nashua, was called home by the Lord on Sunday, June 5, 2016. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on November 26, 1932, the oldest child of the late Albert and Leona (Neuhaus) Meyer, and grew up in Bronxville, NY, on the campus of Concordia College, where her father was president for over 25 years.

She was the wife of Daniel Marcek, Sr., whom she married on September 10, 1955, and shared over 60 years of marriage. While they began married life in Greendale, WI, the young couple relocated to Nashua, NH, in 1960. In 1965, Dot and Dan together built a beautiful house where they have resided since. Dot was a proud graduate of Cornell University and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing. After receiving her degree, she worked for a short time as a practicing RN before becoming the executive director of the former Merrimack Valley Home Health Care (now part of Home Health and Hospice Care).

Mrs. Marcek was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Nashua. Previously, she and her husband were active in Christ the King Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the choir, superintendent of Sunday School, and served as the children’s choir director. She loved to sing! As second soprano, Dot was also active in Choraliers, the Nashua Choral Society and Actorsingers. Dot was a voracious reader, coupon clipper and estate sale maven – she had a keen eye and could always spot a bargain!

Dot believed in volunteerism, helping others and giving back to her community. In 2015, Dot was recognized for over 28 years of volunteering at the Nashua Soup Kitchen. She also volunteered at the Pilgrim Church Thrift Shop and served on several local boards including that of the Nashua Children’s Home. In her retirement, Dot enjoyed world travel, spending time with family, bird watching, flower gardening and ‘digging in the dirt.’

In addition to her beloved and devoted husband, she is survived by her children Daniel Marcek Jr. and his partner Judy Quigley, John Marcek and his wife Patricia, Judith Kelley and her husband John, and Karen Talbot; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Jungkuntz; her brother, James Meyer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
