James Walter Brannigan

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather James Walter Brannigan, 73, of Redmond, Washington, formerly of Nashua and Hollis, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, after a brief illness.

Jim was born in Hastings, Nebraska on March 23, 1943, to the late Earl and Olinda (Walker) Brannigan. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Hastings in 1962 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably as an Electrician’s Mate during the Vietnam War. In 1967, while stationed in Newport, Rhode Island, he met Norma Lee Jepson of Brookline, and it was love at first sight. Following his discharge from the Navy, Jim and Norma were married on November 18, 1967, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Nashua. They resided in Nashua, where their son James Michael was born in 1975. They later moved to Hollis in 1987, and eventually to Redmond, Washington in 2004.

Jim worked as an electrical engineer for BAE Systems in Nashua (formerly Sanders Associates and Lockheed Martin) from 1967 until his retirement in 2003. Jim was loved by all who knew him for his warmth, sense of humor and willingness to help anyone in need. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of nearly 49 years, Jim is survived by his son James Michael Brannigan; daughter-in-law Gladys Springborn; granddaughter Simone; and grandson Cyrus, all of Lynnwood, Washington; brothers Lawrence, Joseph, Donald and Robert Brannigan, and sister Kathleen Witte and their spouses; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Mary Patricia, Marilyn and Colleen.
