Marie Therese McKay (Terry)
On Monday, May 30, 2016, Marie Therese McKay (Terry), passed peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by family in her home. Born August 28, 1926, to Dr. Thomas Maley and Frances Tolman Maley, Terry lived an adventurous life set to the sounds of Big Band and Irish music. Seventy years ago, Terry married her childhood sweetheart, William Wesley McKay. Terry and Bill moved over 20 times, from Philadelphia to a horse ranch in Maine, and ultimately to New Hampshire. Terry was an accomplished artist who went back to school in her 50s and graduated with a BA in fine arts. She enjoyed zestfully hooking rugs with her dear friends, “The Happy Hollis Hookers,” along with painting and creating beautiful art of all sorts. She designed costumes for the New Thalian players for many years and loved being a part of the theater productions. Her many creations will live on as testimony to her prolific gifts. She loved spending time at “The Beehive,” her treasured family camp in Maine. Terry was predeceased by her beloved sons, William Thomas McKay and Robert Douglas McKay. We take comfort that she is with them now. She is survived by her husband, William McKay; daughters Kathleen Shaller, Jennifer Tardif, Kitty McKay and Julie Wixson Mixson; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Terry was our strong, inspiring matriarch. Mom and Nana to so many, she will be deeply missed by her wide circle of family and friends. A service will be held at the Congregational Church of Hollis on June 4 at 2 pm.
