Marilyn Lund
Born in Hollis on September 5, 1922, Marilyn Lund (93) died peacefully at her home on Boston Post Road, Amherst, NH, on May 3, 2016, just as the first lilac bloomed. She lived the kind of life she always wanted, an independent Yankee until the end. She had an eye for beauty: in her home and gardens and in everything she touched. Though she never had children of her own, except, of course, a wonderful, long line of dachshunds, she gave her time and energy generously and lovingly, taking her nieces and nephews on trips to discover polliwogs, fall leaves, wildflowers and a profound sense of wonder at the natural world. She listened and helped them perfect their sense of who they were. To work next to her gardening, raking, making "plain donuts" or drinking a scotch was to share in a personal joy and humor with the world. She was to both old and young that safe harbor where you could be comfortable, learn and be understood, say anything, knowing it was secure with her. Even at 93, people who met her pronounced her "just plain cute." In this complicated world, her humor and love will be sorely missed. A graduate of Hollis High School, she lived much of her life in Hollis, until she finished her Amherst home in 1968. Her professional life included years at Coppers Co., Footer Trucking, and New England Pole & Wood Treating. Marilyn will be missed by her many friends and neighbors and mourned by her dachshund, Peachy. Surviving her are brothers-in-law Clay Sipe of Concord and Robert Mercer of Wolfeboro, NH, and sister-in-law Thelma Lund of AZ, as well as many loving nieces and nephews: Kathleen Neary Therrien of FL, Patricia Neary-Hayward, Heather Miller of Michigan, Greg Mercer of New York, Jay Mercer of NH, Sarah Mercer of New York, John Lund of Connecticut, Debbie Luque of Florida, Jennifer Rippon of AZ, Ann Luekens of CA, Kirk Sipe of NY, Donna Streeter of CA, Chuck Sipe of NJ, Gina Eaton of NV, Paul Sipe of Manchester and Faith Sipe of New Bedford, MA, as well as many grand-and great-grandnieces and -nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Christine (Scott) and Perley Lund; six brothers and sisters, Marjorie Neary, Arline Lund- Gerbrands, Maynard Lund, Phillip Lund, Beverly Sipe, Audrey Mercer; and niece Margot Beauchamp.
The family plans to celebrate Auntie Marilyn’s life and the love they still feel for her later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to dachsund rescue or an animal or nature charity of your choice.
