John L. Engberg

John L. Engberg, 88, of Nashua, NH passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, following a long illness. John was at home and surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

John was born on Feb. 13, 1927, in the Bronx, NY. He was the son of the late Harold L. and Loretta (Cray) Engberg. John leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 56 years Joan I. (Kenyon) Engberg as well as his 5 children John Engberg and his wife Peggy of Commack, NY, William Engberg and his partner Bryan Spence of Palm Beach, FL, Lee Engberg of Nashua, NH, Kathryn Engberg and her partner Francis Bergin of Worcester, MA and Carol A. Engberg-Efstathiou and her husband Nicholas of Nashua, NH. He also leaves his 7 grandchildren Brendan, Kristine, John, Sarah, Ryan, Kaycie and Nicholas as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him. John was preceded in death by his brother Harold F. Engberg.
Upon graduation from high school in 1945 John entered the U.S. Army. He served in WWII and Korea and was a recipient of a Purple Heart medal for wounds sustained in combat. John went on to graduate from Manhattan College in 1953 and earned an MBA from Columbia University in 1954. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City and retired in 1988 as Vice President of the Corporate Controllers Department. Upon retirement, John and Joan relocated to Nashua, NH. In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Later on he found pleasure doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He always enjoyed making people laugh but more importantly he cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. following visiting hours. Interment prayers and burial will follow the service at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. Family and friends are invited to attend.
