Manchester Chief: No reason to search for weapon

MANCHESTER (AP) — The Manchester police chief says officers had no reason to search for weapons in the home of a man who later shot to death his wife before killing himself.

Chief David Mara says Melissa Charbonneau didn’t mention to officers that her estranged husband Jonathan had a weapon.

Twice in the hours before Melissa Charbonneau was shot and killed Thursday with a hunting rifle, Jonathan Charbonneau was served with legal papers that required him to surrender any weapons.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says that a protective order was served on Jonathan Charbonneau shortly before the shootings.

Meanwhile, the attorney general’s office says an autopsy showed that Melissa Charbonneau died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
