Injured hiker rescued from Mount Monadnock

JAFFREY (AP) — New Hampshire emergency officials, volunteers and conservation officers successfully rescued a Massachusetts hiker injured while descending Mount Monadnock.

New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers, state Mountain Patrol Rangers and Jaffrey firefighters and volunteers initiated the rescue mission after receiving an emergency call at about 9 p.m. Saturday.

The hiker reported that one of his two companions had fallen and was having serious medical issues.

Rescuers reached the trio shortly after 10 p.m. halfway up the White Cross Trail and began administering first aid to 34-year-old Scott Murciak of Salem, Massachusetts. They continued to provide medical assistance while carrying Murciak to Monadnock Park headquarters, which they reached at about 2 a.m.

Murciak was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
