Providence teacher drowns in New Hampshire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 37-year-old Cumberland man who taught in the Providence school system has died in an accidental drowning in New Hampshire.

William Glad died Friday, according to an obituary posted by the funeral home. Officials said he was swimming in the Ammonoosuc River and was overpowered by the current.

The obituary says Glad was a secondary education teacher for Providence public schools for 12 years. He currently worked as a social studies teacher at Del Sesto Middle School, where he was the department chair. He coached basketball and had previously been an assistant football coach at La Salle Academy.

Glad was a 1995 graduate of Cumberland High School, where he was a varsity captain of the hockey and football teams.

He attended Rhode Island College and Providence College.
