Hooksett welcome center construction ahead of schedule

HOOKSETT (AP) — New Hampshire’s Department of Transportation says construction of the upgraded welcome centers along Interstate 93 in Hooksett is about three to four months ahead of schedule.

DOT spokesman Bill Boynton tells New Hampshire Public Radio (http://bit.ly/1osJqmS) the northbound center is looking at an early September date for the opening of the liquor and wine outlet and convenience stores, the restrooms and interim tourist accommodations. The southbound center is looking to open those facilities later in September.

When done, the centers are expected to include include a food court with a 1950s style diner, an Italian farmhouse restaurant, a deli, and a breakfast shop, along with a 24-hour convenience store, a bank branch, and an interactive and informative visitor’s center.

The original completion date was scheduled for April 2015.
