MANCHESTER (AP) — A former police sergeant in Weare, New Hampshire, has sued the town, saying he suffered anxiety and post-traumatic stress syndrome and was not given proper medical care following an attempted drug bust that turned into a chaotic fatal shooting last year.

The Concord Monitor reports (http://bit.ly/1h36xpo) Joseph Kelley was fired in November after internal investigations showed he falsified time cards and other documents and asked a co-worker to lie about his health to get workers’ compensation and disability benefits.

Kelley’s suit filed Monday in Hillsborough County Superior Court disputes the allegations and says he was fired without adequate notice.

Police Chief John Velleca said he hadn’t read the lawsuit and couldn’t comment on it.

Attorney General Joseph Foster had criticized Kelley’s decision to pursue the drug investigation without proper planning.
