Car crashes into building; woman arrested

By Mathew Plamondon - Staff Writer | Aug 24, 2019

NASHUA – A Ford Fusion allegedly driven by a Massachusetts woman crashed into one of the pillars at the entrance of the Nashua Area Artists Association Art Hub at 30 Temple St. on Friday, taking down a 20 mph speed marker in the process.

An unidentified woman, who witnesses said was the vehicle’s driver, was led away from the scene in handcuffs by a Nashua Police Department officer.

As of late Friday, Nashua police had not released any information about the incident, or the woman’s identity, while officers on the scene declined to answer any questions posed by The Telegraph.

As residents from around the area, and those who conduct business inside the building, ventured out to see what the loud noise was, police fire and medical personal worked the scene. The Fusion sustained substantial front end damage and the airbags could be seen deployed.

Nadia Ryder, who lives across the street at 29 Temple St., said she was sound asleep when she heard the crash, which had startled her from the slumber.

“I was dead asleep, and all I heard was crash, bang, and I seen the car had hit the pole,” she said. “I was dead asleep in my bedroom, and thought there was an accident and I come out and seen a white car against the pole.”

Those who work within the building said they could feel the impact the vehicle had when it cam in contact with building, which multiple witnesses said could be felt all the way up to the left side of the building.

“The entire building shook, and I wondered what was going on,” City Moose Cafe’ general manager Amanda Thomas said. Her office is located right above where the crash took place. “We looked out the window and saw the car in the building.”

“It was weird. It was like if you’re standing in a room and an entire freezer fell to the floor. It sounded like things were just moving and crashing,” she added.

“It was crazy. I never imagined we look out the window and see a car into the building,” she continued.

The driver, a female, was questioned on the scene and later taken away in handcuffs. However, no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident.
