Police cite excessive speed in car crash crash

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Jun 20, 2019

MERRIMACK – Austin MacLeod, the driver of the pickup truck involved in Sunday evening’s single-vehicle crash that left himself and another man with serious injuries, may have been driving too fast in the moments leading up to the crash, police said.

While the incident remains under investigation, police said preliminary observations indicate “speed does appear to be a factor in the crash,” which occurred at 6 p.m. Sunday in the area of 43 Bedford Road.

MacLeod, 28, of 45 Raymond St., Hudson, and one of his passengers, Christopher Nadeau, 37, of 20 Tanglewood Way, had to be extricated from the truck by firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools, police said.

The other passenger, Tracey Jesmer, 30, of 64 Flaherty Lane, Manchester, sustained minor injuries, police said, and was transported to Catholic Medical Center in Manchester for treatment.

MacLeod and Nadeau, meanwhile, were administered treatment by paramedics at the scene. Once stabilized, they were taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, where a trauma team was standing by to assist.

Police said investigating officers determined MacLeod was driving the 2007 Chevrolet 1500 west on Bedford Road when he apparently lost control on a slight curve between Winding Brook and Bramber lanes, a residential area just around the corner from the Reeds Ferry Elementary School.

The truck left tire marks in a grassy area, showing the path it appears to have taken from the paved road to the heavy brush and trees where it came to rest.

Information on the condition of the men wasn’t immediately available Wednesday.

Merrimack police ask that anyone who has any additional information regarding the crash contact Lt. Chris Spillane or officer Brian Masker at 603-424-3774.
