Nashua PAL selected to receive facility renovations

By Mathew Plamondon - Staff Writer | May 9, 2019

NASHUA – Members of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce joined city leaders and others on Wednesday to learn that New Hampshire-based nonprofit organization Building on Hope will provide renovations for the city’s Police Athletic League facilities.

“We’re a catalyst for something more. When we do these projects, it’s not about just the physical makeover – it’s about what more you can be,” Building on Hope Co-chair Jonathan Halle said while addressing the crowd. “We picked NPAL because you have an incredible program that does incredible things in a neighborhood that really needs it.”

As a group of New Hampshire volunteers, Building on Hope has been taking on the challenge of helping to restore the facilities of other nonprofits throughout the state by rallying members of the community to donate their time, as well as materials, to their causes.

During the past 10 years, volunteers with Building on Hope have worked to better the communities throughout the state through their previous work. This includes the renovations of facilities for Easter Seals in Manchester, Girl’s Inc. in Manchester, Opportunity Networks of Amherst, Manchester Police Athletic League and the Crisis Center of New Hampshire in Concord.

Every two years, after intense planning, while working with builders, architects and designers, volunteers work to complete restoration in 10 days, while using only donated time and materials.

With the upcoming project, Halle said he hopes members of the chamber and those around the community will be able to donate, participate and work together to make Nashua PAL even better equipped to serve those who need services.

“I’m really excited for NPAL to have been chosen. We have a year’s worth of planning – the project is going to happen in May of 2020,” Halle said. “Everybody is welcome. This is really a community event. This is really about pulling in all the people that NPAL touches and that they haven’t touched yet. Anybody, no matter their abilities, can participate.”
