Relay For Life event Thursday

NASHUA – Relay For Life of Greater Nashua returns once again, as organizers are looking to gain some traction this week.

This kickoff event is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Leda Lighthouse at Leda Lanes, located at 338 Amherst St. There will be discounted glow bowling and food for all who attend.

Participants will have the opportunity to gather additional information and have any of their questions answered. The Greater Nashua relay encompasses Nashua and surrounding towns, including Hudson, Amherst, Merrimack, Hollis, Brookline and other area communities.

This year’s theme is Hearts Full of Hope.

“They can come out and learn about Relay For Life, learn how to participate – and if they don’t want to be on a team, or part of a team, learn how they can volunteer,” volunteer community lead for the event leadership team Tracy McGraw said.

Relay For Life is organized by the American Cancer Society and is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in thousands of communities and 27 countries. It raises money to help the society make a global impact on cancer. During last year’s relay, an impact was made when fundraisers went above and beyond their goal of $60,000, bringing in $65,000.

McGraw said this year, they have increased the goal by aiming to bring in $75,000 between donations, and team and individual fundraising, have 30-plus teams participate, get 200-plus participants involved and feature 60-plus survivors.

Additionally, there will be a variety of themed laps occurring all day, including Hawaiian, Retro 50’s and Circus to name a few.

“We’re doing this together because together, we can help eradicate cancer,” McGraw said. “No one is alone going through this process. There is always someone out there. Whether you’re young or old, you don’t have to do this alone.”

This year’s relay is set for 11 a.m. June 22 at Nashua High School North, 8 Titan Way, Nashua. For more information, contact Linda Dinoto at linda.dinoto@cancer.org, or 548-2804.
