Merrimack woman sent to prison in drug case

By Staff | Dec 7, 2018

NASHUA – The Merrimack woman indicted earlier this year on several charges accusing her of possessing, selling, swallowing and hiding within a body cavity heroin or fentanyl, has been sentenced to two to four years in State Prison.

Lois Masci, 51, most recently of 246 Daniel Webster Hwy., Unit 324, entered guilty pleas Thursday in Hillsborough County Superior Court-South to three counts of violation of the controlled drug act and two counts of falsifying physical evidence, all felonies.

In exchange, Masci agreed to the sentence of two to four years in prison, stand-committed, to be served beginning immediately.

Masci also pleaded guilty at the hearing to the charge of common nuisance, a misdemeanor defined as keeping a dwelling where illegal activity regularly takes place. Because it involves a residence on Brook Street in Manchester, the charge was originally filed in Hillsborough County Superior Court-North, but was combined with the others for the purpose of Thursday’s hearing.

Both Masci and her husband, Shane Masci, 44, were indicted in July. The grand jury indicted him on four counts of sale of a controlled drug, felonies, alleging he sold fentanyl to undercover police agents through the course of four days in May.

The current status of Shane Masci’s case wasn’t immediately available.

Merrimack Police Department officials said at the time of their arrests that the department’s Special Investigations Unit began conducting surveillance of the couple and their residence after receiving a tip from a neighboring police department.

Through several days in early May, undercover officers made four controlled buys of heroin or fentanyl from the couple, according to reports at the time.

Police later obtained a warrant to search the 246 Daniel Webster Hwy. residence, and arrested the couple a short time later.

After transporting them to police headquarters, police said officers noted Lois Masci making “furtive movements,” and upon searching her determined she had tried to conceal several small plastic bags containing heroin or fentanyl “inside her person.”

Police transported her to a hospital, where a doctor removed the bags, according to police. They said she also admitted to swallowing two bags of heroin or fentanyl, evidence that police had to wait for while Masci was at the hospital.
