Court date set for man accused of fighting police
MERRIMACK – Police said the man arrested over the holiday weekend on allegations he tried to assault an officer during a brawl in a local Chinese restaurant is due in court later this week to answer to the charges.
Steven McIntyre, 29, a Merrimack resident whose street address police didn’t provide, was charged with one count each of attempted assault on a police officer; resisting arrest or detention; and disorderly conduct.
Police said he was taken into custody after a brief struggle with officers, who were initially called to the Jade Dragon Restaurant and Lounge, 515 Daniel Webster Highway, for a fight in progress inside the establishment.
McIntyre is scheduled to appear at 8 a.m. Thursday in Merrimack district court on the charges, all of which are Class A misdemeanors.
Upon his arrest, police said McIntyre was transported to police headquarters for booking, and was later released on personal recognizance bail.
Police said officers who responded to the restaurant were in the process of breaking up the fight when McIntyre “attempted to assault one of the officers by striking him with his hand.”
The brief struggle ensued, but the officers were able to take McIntyre into custody.
There were no reports of injuries to the officers or any of the civilians present.
