NASHUA – Police, acting on information from the state Attorney General’s office, tracked down and arrested a 22-year-old man Wednesday on a series of charges involving illegal drug activity – one of which accuses him of possessing with intent to distribute nearly 45 grams of heroin, a special felony that carries a penalty of up to life in prison.

Grant Michallyszyn, who police said had been staying at a local extended-stay hotel, was picked up inside an Amherst Street supermarket by officers acting on a tip, according to police.

He was held overnight and arraigned Thursday in Hillsborough County Superior Court-South. Court orders state that Michallyszyn’s bail is subject to review by the Adult Parole Board, and that he is due back in court Nov. 1 for an evidentiary hearing.

The judge’s notations state Michallyszyn is currently on parole on drug-related and sexual assault charges, and allegedly has a history of failing to report to parole for supervision.

The notes indicate he’s had a “substance use disorder since age 14, without any significant treatment.”

The charges Michallyszyn is facing include three counts of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, second offense, classified as special felonies; two counts, possession of a controlled drug, second offense; two counts of convicted felons, felonies; and one count of possession of prescription drugs, a misdmeanor.

The convicted felons charges accuse him of possessing two firearms after being convicted of a felony.

Following Michallyszyn’s arrest, members of Nashua’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit, along with investigators from the Attorney General’s office, obtained a search warrant for his hotel room, police said.

In the room, they found two firearms and large quantities of drugs, the largest being the 44.9 grams of “a tan powdery substance believed to be heroin/fentanyl,” police wrote in reports.

They also found 125 sublingual strips of the drug Suboxone; 143 pills believed to be Gabapentin, a prescription anticonvulsant; 79 pills believed to be Clonazepam, “small quantities” of substances believed to be methamphetamine and cocaine; $3,400 in cash; and “multiple digital scales and drug-packaging equipment,” according to the reports.
