Rotary Club of Nashua West’s 45th Annual Spaghetti Dinner set to delight

By GRACE PECCI - Staff Writer | Oct 4, 2018

NASHUA – The Rotary Club of Nashua West’s 45th Annual Spaghetti Dinner will serve more than just a delicious, hot meal. It also will bring together different businesses with members of the community and serve to help citizens who are in need of food.

The dinner will take place from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Nashua Senior Center. Those interested in attending will be able to purchase a $5 ticket at the door, and organizers estimate they will serve 300-500 meals.

Rotary Club of Nashua West President Kim Reagan said those who cannot attend the dinner still may purchase tickets in advance by calling 603-418-5503. She said those tickets then may be donated to people in the community who are in need. Reagan said one of the sponsors of this year’s meal already has purchased 50 tickets, which are being shared with the Nashua Children’s Home.

“It’s a nice way to give a hot meal in the local community,” Reagan said.

Reagan also noted the Rotary Club is lucky to have great sponsors for this event. In the past, Reagan said the Rotary has run out of supplies because so many people attended.

“When you’re feeding that many people, traditionally in the past, we were kind of at a loss for what to do,” Reagan said.

Luckily, she said many businesses will come together to donate toward the event to prevent that from happening this year. Cucina Toscana, which is located on Amherst Street, will donate all of the sauce for the event. Bruster’s Ice Cream of Nashua will donate ice cream, and Costco will supply sheet cakes for dessert.

Coca-Cola will donate beverages, along with Edward Jones, which will supply coffee and rolls.

As an added benefit, there will be familiar faces in the kitchen as well. Some of the same people from previous events will return to cook the spaghetti and prepare the salads, Reagan said.

In addition, Nashua Community College’s Rotaract Club and Nashua North and South students from the Interact Club also will volunteer at the dinner. Reagan touched upon the benefits of having students give back to the community.

“It brings all the young people to work side by side with the Rotarians, and it really teaches them how to be active in the community,” Reagan said.

Aside from the good food and company, Nashua’s DJ Bernie will make an appearance, and the annual Paisano Cup Challenge is returning. Nashua’s three Rotary clubs – Souhegan Valley Rotary, Rotary Club of Nashua and Rotary Club of Nashua West – each will bring a spaghetti sauce in crock pots as part of the friendly competition. They will give out samples, and the Rotary with the most votes will win the trophy for the year.

Reagan said any left over food will be donated to the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter and Nashua’s Children’s Home at the end of the evening.
