‘Dinner on Main Street’

By Hannah LaClaire - Staff Writer | Aug 15, 2018

NASHUA – Shaunae Nolet expects this year’s Dinner on Main Street to be a “win-win-win.”

It will be a win for the downtown restaurants and downtown business, a win for the community to experience such a wide array of what the local restaurants have to offer, and a win for Great American Downtown, as the event will help the organization raise money to host more events in the future.

Plus, she said, “the downtown is the heart of any community.”

The festivities will begin with the cocktail hour at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 9, while dinner will be served starting at 4:30 p.m.

Nolet is the dinner’s event coordinator, helping to facilitate the relationships between the restaurants, the vendors and the organization.

This is the fourth year for the dinner, but only the second year that the focus has been on a “harvest celebration,” she said. Each dish should have at least one locally grown or sourced ingredient.

While the event is still weeks away, Nolet and her team have already been working for months to plan what she called a “one-of-a-kind experience.”

After all, where else can “you sit on the street of your town with 299 other people” for a formal dinner?

Nolet met with chefs from several restaurants such as MTs Local, JajaBelle’s, Oddfellow’s and others Tuesday afternoon to start sampling the various courses they will serve.

The dinner will start with an appetizer and cocktail hour, moving into a soup and salad course, three main courses of chicken, a vegan meal and beef (all with options for a wine or beer pairing) and desserts.

Visitors may sample anything from watermelon gazpacho to pear and caramel bars to vegan cashew ricotta stuffed zucchini.

Next week, Nolet will meet with various breweries and wineries to help choose which drinks to pair with the meals.

These pairings of food and drink are the very essence of the event. The dinner, she said, celebrates “togetherness and community,” and will have a festive and fun atmosphere.
