Bail continued for Justin Contreras, man charged after police shooting

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Jul 13, 2018

NASHUA – Justin Contreras, the 29-year-old man arrested for allegedly threatening police a week after an officer shot him in an armed confrontation in his Ledge Street residence, waived formal arraignment Thursday and remained free on bail.

Contreras, whose address is listed as 106 Ledge St. on some court documents and Three Robin Drive in Hudson on others, entered a not guilty plea to the single felony charge of criminal threatening, which accuses him of raising a handgun and allegedly pointing it at officer James Ciulla.

Contreras allegedly ignored Ciulla’s orders to drop the gun, according to police reports, prompting Ciulla to shoot Contreras. He remained conscious, and, police said, indicated he “didn’t want to live anymore,” and told officers he “just wanted you guys to kill me.”

Contreras was hospitalized locally then transferred to a Boston hospital for treatment. It isn’t clear when he was discharged from the hospital, but police arrested him July 2 in Nashua on the criminal threatening charge.

Contreras’s arraignment waiver lists his attorney as Jared Bedrick, and gives his address as Three Robin Drive, the home of family members.

The rest of Contreras’s bail order remains in effect, including the continuance of his $5,000 personal recognizance bail.

He is also ordered to abide by a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, remain on good behavior and live at the Robin Drive residence.

His next court appearance, which is likely to be a dispositional conference, has yet to be scheduled, according to the waiver.
