Summer Kickoff Party on tap Friday

Barbecue and summer fun at Arlington Community Center

NASHUA – Few events offer the same “start of summer feel” more than a barbecue.

Friday, the Arlington Street Community Center will welcome the start of no school and warm weather with a Summer Kickoff Party, complete with hot dogs, cupcakes and dancing,” according to Kim Kleiner, chief of staff for Mayor Jim Donchess.

There will be crafts led by local Girl Scouts, a science experiment, games such as a bean bag toss, soccer hula-hooping and more. The event will also feature the official unveiling of the community center’s summer programming.

To spread the word, Kleiner said, volunteers have hand-delivered over 1,000 fliers throughout the Crown Hill neighborhood.

“It’s a great community resource,” she said of the center. “You get to know other people in the community and build relationships.”

This summer, there will be more staff members in the center to answer questions even when various classes and programs may not be scheduled, Kleiner said, the lack of which has been a challenge previously.

The goal of the party is to give people something fun to do after the last day of school, and also to “bring the community together,” she said.

The event is 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Arlington Street Community Center, 36 Arlington St.
