Souhegan Valley Rotary Club hosts fundraiser event

Kentucky Derby Party to raise money for area nonprofit

NASHUA – Souhegan Valley “Happy Hour” Rotary Club is hosting yet another Kentucky Derby Party at Boston Billiards in Nashua to raise money for area organizations.

The party will be held on May 5, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $20 a piece online at EventBrite.

“It really makes the experience a lot of fun between gaming, pool tables and even the staff gets dressed up, it’s really a good time,” Current Club President Rob Moore said.

Aside from gambling and viewing the Kentucky Derby, there will also be raffles and prizes donated from area businesses. This years proceeds will benefit non-profits including the Front Door Agency and the Nashua Police Athletic League (PAL). Moore said in the past the event would focus on one individual nonprofit.

“It was decided a couple years ago that it was great to benefit one nonprofit but no that we have resources coming in we’d like to be able to diversify,” Moore said.

Being one of the newest clubs in the area after starting up in 2010, Moore said membership has grown significantly in the past couple years. This, in turn, allows them to be able to have more of an impact on the community financially.

“We started off as young professionals just starting out. We had time to donate, whether it’s cleaning up a park, but really it’s more about rolling up our sleeves and helping the community,” Moore said, adding that, “We now have the ability to stretch financially throughout the community, as well.”

The Kentucky Derby Party is the Clubs largest fundraiser of the year.
