Souhegan Chamber benefit to help vets

NASHUA – Since 2007, the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce has organized a benefit auction on behalf of New Hampshire active duty military families and veterans. For the past three events, the Chamber has been very fortunate to partner with some very popular and talented professional athletes. Previous pro-athletes featured were New England Patriots Vince Wilfork (2015), Malcolm Butler (2016) and David Ortiz “Big Papi” of the Boston Red Sox in 2017. Event attendees came from all over New Hampshire, Boston and as far away as Texas.

This year, with the New England Patriots headed for an eighth trip to the Super Bowl, the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that two New England Patriot all-stars, safety Devin McCourty and running back Dion Lewis, will be featured at its All-star Tailgate for Troops auction on April 28 in the ballroom of the Crowne Plaza, Nashua. Attendees will be encouraged to come decked out in their favorite Patriots gear for this tailgate-themed spectacular evening.

An all-American free safety and a key to New England’s successful defense since the 2010 season, McCourty has been a team co-captain for five years, and is a two-time Super Bowl champion. Signing with New England in 2015, Lewis is known as a jack-of-all trades running back who can take over any game at a moment’s notice. Lewis played on the Super Bowl championship team in 2017, and is having a fantastic season going into next week’s Super Bowl.

This “patriotic” tailgate event will feature a meet and greet with McCourty and Lewis, photos with the players, a heads and tails “coin toss” game with McCourty and Lewis for chances to win autographed sports memorabilia, raffles, a silent auction, tailgate fare and much more.

Chamber officials said they are proud to announce that this year’s “All-Star Tailgate for Troops” event will once again benefit The Chaplain Emergency Relief Fund, which provides emergency support to New Hampshire active duty military troops and their families. CERF provides emergency financial assistance to Granite State military families primarily in the areas of rent, mortgage, utilities and medical bills. Money for the fund comes solely from individual and corporate contributions. The fund is managed by volunteer trustees, all of whom are New Hampshire National Guard chaplains. Of the money received as donations to CERF, 100 percent goes directly toward emergency assistance. No portion of the donations go to administrative costs, and all funds stay in-state to help New Hampshire families.
