Milford man recovering in hospital after early morning assault Monday

MILFORD – Police have charged an Amherst man with second-degree assault in an alleged attack on a Milford man they found bleeding on Middle Street around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

According to Capt. Chris Nervik, police were called about 1:25 a.m., and officers responding found Joshua Breeding, 28, of Milford, unconscious on the ground and bleeding from the head.

Police on the scene questioned witnesses and determined that Breeding had been assaulted, then shortly after, charged Malcolm J. Salls, 43, of 6 Junkins Lane, Amherst, with second-degree assault.

Nervik said the investigation has determined that it was a “real brief altercation” and believe that Salls struck Breeding with his fist but are still investigating “to determine exactly what happened.”

Breeding was taken by Milford ambulance to a Nashua hospital, then to Massachusetts General Hospital in Worcester. A hospital spokesperson said they do not give out information about the condition of patients.

Milford district court had no information about the arrest at presstime.
